Our team has completed a year-long research project comparing conventional avocado ripening practices with its data-driven ripening solution, RipeWise. The study revealed a 29–33% improvement in homogeneity across batches ripened with RipeWise, showcasing the power of predictive control in achieving consistent quality.
Advancing Ripening with Predictive Insights
The research aimed to tackle one of the biggest operational challenges in the fruit industry: achieving uniform ripeness across large avocado batches. Unlike traditional methods that rely on fixed temperature and ethylene settings, RipeWise continuously monitors fruit behaviour and ripeners can adjust ripening room conditions in real time through our solution.
At the core of the system lies a prediction model that allows the software to provide precise, adaptive recommendations on room settings and timing — creating an environment tailored to the fruit’s ripening progress.
Testing for Consistency
The experiment was conducted in four controlled ripening rooms using early-season Peruvian Hass avocados. Two rooms followed conventional fixed methods, while the other two applied RipeWise’s dynamic predictive program.
Homogeneity was measured as the spread between the highest and lowest fruit pressure, with the target range set at 3–6 kg firmness.
Results: More Uniform Ripeness, Less Waste
The outcome was clear: RipeWise ripening led to a 29–33% increase in fruit homogeneity, compared to conventional methods.*
*Results obtained in our test container have been confirmed to be statistically comparable to full-scale ripening facilities.

The results underline the growing importance of data-driven decision-making in fruit ripening. By adapting to real-time fruit behaviour, ripeners can achieve more consistent outcomes, reduce waste, and improve planning accuracy across the supply chain.
